Aotea Centre was purpose-built for the performing arts, a creative heart for our city centre. As such, it is home to New Zealand’s largest modern tiered auditorium, a unique black box theatre, function rooms, and the popular BOX Cafe and Bar. As it was designed around a collection of beautiful New Zealand artworks by leading contemporary artists, the Centre is full of light and space – an inspiring venue for any occasion.

The Centre has several flexible rooms and spaces, and the technology to facilitate seamless connections and the immersive experience demanded by our artists. With plenty of spaces to mingle and network, Aotea Centre is a venue of choice for business gatherings as well as the performing arts community.

Aotea Centre Refurbishment

The Centre is undergoing an exciting redevelopment to regenerate one of Auckland’s most iconic venues. The phased redevelopment includes a distinctive new exterior and a comprehensive internal refurbishment that began in October 2018. The external refurbishment is due to be completed late in 2019, while the internal refurbishment is nearing completion.

Aotea Centre is on track for reopening for business, with a temporary box office established and the first shows happening in the ASB theatre!
