We have translated our passion for the arts into designing a purpose-built facility to inspire, nurture and develop New Zealand’s talented performers, Aotea Studios.

The proposed development will be a key driver in regenerating and reinvigorating the area around Aotea Square as the cultural, creative and civic heart of Auckland. Once complete, it will cement Aotea Arts Quarter as the hub for high performance training, learning, participation, professional development and creative exploration.

It will also promote active engagement in the creative industries for all Aucklanders, from those seeking opportunities to introduce their whanau to a diverse range of arts activities to individual artists and companies seeking to increase their own education and reach.

Inspired by international best practice, the proposed Aotea Studio expansion will include:

  • State of the art specialised studios for music, drama and dance
  • Development, rehearsal and public performance spaces
  • First-class digital recording facilities
  • Office accommodation; and
  • Retail and food and beverage outlets.

We envisage Aotea Studios will be a fitting permanent home for significant Auckland arts organisations and be the Auckland base for other arts-related companies and practitioners.

As part of the Long Term Planning process, RFA will submit a business case to Auckland Council in 2020 requesting funding to proceed to the development phase. We look forward to sharing designs for this thrilling new development by mid 2020.

An Auckland first, the Aotea Arts Quarter will be home to a dedicated centre for performing arts development, a place to collaborate with talented artists from around the world – and experience and learn from New Zealand’s best and brightest.
